A gorgeous new 'Star Wars' game just leaked
Are you ready for a big new "Star Wars" game? One where you'll see the Death Star explode, where you'll encounter classic characters like Yoda and new classics like Kylo Ren?
EA
Because that's exactly what you should expect from "Star Wars Battlefront 2," a new game that was just revealed through a leaked trailer.
The trailer, which popped up late on Tuesday evening, showcases a new "Star Wars" game that takes place in the wake of the events of "Return of the Jedi." You appear to play as a Stormtrooper, enacting her "last orders" following the explosion of the Death Star.
EA
"Avenge our emperor" a voice shouts, before a montage of space battles — the "last order" in question, it would seem.
The sequence with the Stormtrooper points to a single-player campaign mode, and that's important because the first "Star Wars Battlefront" game (from 2015) was sorely lacking exactly that. While gorgeous, 2015's "Battlefront" game was ridiculously light on content. What was there — a very pretty multiplayer shooter — felt shallow compared with major multiplayer franchises like "Battlefield."
That doesn't mean this new "Battlefront" won't have a focus on multiplayer.
EA
The next section of trailer is dedicated to exactly that, which will once again cross "eras" in the "Star Wars" universe. A fight between Yoda and Darth Maul, for instance, doesn't make canonical sense — yet that's exactly what's teased in the new trailer.
"Star Wars Battlefront 2" doesn't have a release date, and the trailer only says it's coming to PlayStation 4. That said, we'd guess it'll arrive later this year — around the release date of the "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" movie release, perhaps? — and it'll be on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The game's publisher, EA, isn't saying just yet; the full announcement is expected later this week at the annual "Star Wars Celebration" event in Florida.
Update: The trailer has since been removed.

Who run the galaxy? Star Wars women get their own cartoon series and toys.
Despite the presence of Princess Leia, Queen Amidala, Rey, and Jyn Erso on our screens, it can't be said often enough: the Star Wars franchise isn't just for boys.
That point will be driven home this summer by a new initiative called Star Wars: Forces of Destiny. It's a series of toys and cartoons, aimed at a younger demographic, where the women of Star Wars take center stage.

Cosplayers influenced the costume design in Star Wars animated shows
One of the big panels this afternoon at Star Wars Celebration was Dave Filoni: Animated Origins and Unexpected Fates. Filoni, the supervisor on Clone Wars and Rebels, and Story Group member Pablo Hidalgo spoke about the origins of Lucasfilm’s animated shows. During the presentation, Filoni revealed an interesting tidbit: cosplayers helped the creators improve the show.
Filoni dropped the remarks as an entire line of Clone Troopers and characters from two animated shows filed into the room to stand before Filoni and Hidalgo. The troopers were members of The 501st Legion , a worldwide costuming group, who came onstage to present Filoni with some swag.
Knowing that people were wearing costumes forced them to think about what goes into...

Star Wars Gets A New Animated Series Called Forces Of Destiny
Star Wars is getting a new series of animated shorts, and a whole toy line to go with it. Each episode of the upcoming Star Wars Forces of Destiny will be 2-3 minutes in length and will feature the major heroines of the Star Wars universe. Check out the brand new preview above.
Some top Star Wars stars are lending their voice talents too: Daisy Ridley is reprising her role as Rey, Felicity Jones as Jyn, and Lupita Nyong'o as Maz Kanata.
"Star Wars Forces of Destiny is for anyone who has been inspired by Leia's heroism, Rey's courage, or Ahsoka's tenacity," says Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. "We’re thrilled that so many of the original actors are reprising their roles in these shorts which capture the small moments and everyday decisions that shape who these characters are. It is a fun new way for people to experience Star Wars."
There will be a toy line launched alongside the series, along with books, apparel, and bedding featuring the animated version of the characters.
"From Princess Leia to Sabine Wren, Star Wars heroines are unique, and we wanted to represent that in the product line for Star Wars Forces of Destiny," said Jimmy Pitaro, chairman of Disney's consumer products and interactive media division.
"The result is the creation of our new 'Adventure Figures' that celebrate the power and stories of these incredible characters and allow kids to recreate their most heroic moments at home."
Those 'Adventure Figures' are 11-inch action figures of Rey, Jyn Erso, Princess Leia, Sabine Wren, and other characters like BB-8, Chewbacca, Kylo Ren etc.
The Forces of Destiny series of shorts launches in July on Disney's YouTube account . Eight additional shorts will premiere on the Disney Channel in the fall. The show will also be featured at this weekend's Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, and GameSpot will be there. Keep it locked to GameSpot Universe for full coverage of Star Wars Celebration .
