Watch Billie Lourd’s Emotional Star Wars Celebration Tribute to Mom Carrie Fisher

After appearances by Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford at Star Wars Celebration’s “40 Years of Star Wars” Thursday panel, Bille Lourd — the daughter of the late Carrie Fisher — took the stage to pay tribute to the sorely missed final member of the galaxy far, far away trio.
“My mom used to say she never knew where Princess Leia ended and Carrie Fisher began. She went from being an unknown actress — the daughter of Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher — to Princess Leia,” Lourd said. “She was imperfect in many ways but her imperfections and willingness to speak about them are what made her more than perfect. My mom, like Leia, wasn’t ever afraid to speak her mind and say things that might have made most people uncomfortable.”

Star Wars Celebration: Watch Moving Carrie Fisher Tribute Video
This year's Star Wars Celebration kicked off in Orlando, Florida with a star-studded look back at 40 years of the blockbuster franchise. The discussion ended with a moving tribute to Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia in the series and died in December last year.
Star Wars creator George Lucas and Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy spoke warmly about Fisher's impact on their lives, before Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd introduced a video tribute to her mother. Watch it below:

In his tribute to Fisher, Lucas explained what the actress brought to the character of Leia. "She played a part that was very smart, and she was having to hold her own against two big lugs, goofballs that were screwing everything up," he said. "She was the boss. It was her war and when I cast it, I said I want somebody young to play the part. I want somebody very young.
"When Carrie came in, she was that character. She was very strong, very smart, very funny, very bold, very tough, and there really wasn't much of a question. There are not very many people like her. They are one in a billion. For this particular part, it was absolutely perfect... she wore a dress through the whole thing, but she was the toughest in the group.
"At the same time she was fun to be with. She was very challenging in terms of pointing out that certain pieces of dialogue were a little hard to say. She was brilliant and obviously we will all miss her, but she will always be the princess who took command and never backed down. Never was in jeopardy. She was always helping the other guys get out of the messes they created. We'll all love her forever and ever."
The 40th anniversary panel was hosted by Warwick Davis, who played Wicket the Ewok in Return of the Jedi. The event brought together many stars from the original and prequel trilogies, including Mark Hamill (Luke), Harrison Ford (Han), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), Billy Dee Williams (Lando), Ian McDiarmid (Emperor Palpatine), and Hayden Christensen (Anakin). There were also video messages from Liam Neeson (Qui-Gon Jinn) and Samuel L Jackson (Mace Windu).
GameSpot will be at Star Wars Celebration all weekend, so keep checking back for more coverage of the panels and events.

Carrie Fisher's daughter just gave a touching tribute to her mom at 'Star Wars: Celebration'
Disney/Lucasfilm
The INSIDER Summary:
Carrie Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd and George Lucas honored the actress who died last year at "Star Wars: Celebration" in Orlando, Florida Thursday. Lourd recounted three important lessons her mother taught her.  Life should be funny.  She also taught her the strongest person in the room can be the most vulnerable. That's Fisher. Lourd also surprised fans by reciting her mother's iconic Princess Leia hologram speech from "Star Wars."

Carrie Fisher's daughter, Billie Lourd, gave a rousing tribute to Carrie Fisher at the first day of "Star Wars: Celebration" Thursday, the annual event to celebrate all things about a galaxy far, far away.
Fisher, who played Princess Leia in the "Star Wars" saga, died in December 2016 at the age of 70 . She had recently completed filming for the next film in the new "Star Wars" trilogy, "The Last Jedi."
George Lucas and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy welcomed the crowd at Celebration before introducing Lourd.
"There are not very many people like her. They're one in a billion," Lucas told the crowd as photos of Fisher on set over the years went by on screen. "She wore a dress through the whole thing, but she was the toughest one of the group."
Disney/Lucasfilm
"She'll always be the princess who took command and never backed down, never was in jeopardy. She was always helping the other guys get out of the messes they created," he added. "We'll all love her forever and ever."
The two then gave the stage to Lourd to say a few words about her mom. Lourd gave a touching speech about the "strong soldier of a woman" her mother was while wearing a dress inspired by Princess Leia's iconic gown.
Much of the speech has been edited out of the live stream on "Star Wars" YouTube page. INSIDER pieced together most of it below from the "Star Wars"  YouTube  channel, the official "Star Wars"  Periscope , and uploads of the speech online.
Here it is in full as complete as we could find it for now:
Disney/Lucasfilm
"My mom used to say she never knew where Princess Leia ended and Carrie Fisher began," Lourd began. "She was imperfect in many ways but her imperfections and willingness to speak about them are what made her more than perfect. My mom, like Leia, wasn’t ever afraid to speak her mind and say things that might have made most people uncomfortable, but not me and not you. That was why she loved you, because you accepted and embraced all of her."
"No one could have known what this once little dream of a movie would eventually become and what it would mean to millions worldwide. Mostly not her. But in our world 'Star Wars' ultimately became our religion, our family, and our way of life. And I wanted to be here with all of you because I know that many of you feel the same way. When she surrounded herself with fans at celebrations like this she never felt more at home. She could spend hours talking to people and ... leaving the convention center having met and had a shared Carrie moment with every single person there. Nothing about her was a performance. She loved you. She loved these movies. She loved the people she got to make them with. And she loved this incredible character to got to create. This force called Leia."
As you could hear Lourd get more emotional in the speech, the crowd cheered her to carry on.
Disney/Lucasfilm
"She [Fisher] taught me three important things," Lourd continued. "One thing all mothers should teach their daughters."
Lourd paused and took a deep breath before surprising the crowd with a recitation of her mother's iconic dialogue from "Star Wars." It's the speech that plays from the hologram asking Obi-Wan Kenobi for help.
Disney/Lucasfilm
General Kenobi, years ago you served my father in the Clone Wars. Now, he begs you to help him in his struggle against the Empire. I regret that I am unable to present my father's request to you in person, but my ship has fallen under attack, and I'm afraid my mission to bring you to Alderaan has failed. I have placed information vital to the survival of the Rebellion into the memory system of this R2 unit. My father will know how to retrieve it. You must see this droid safely delivered to him on Alderaan. This is our most desperate hour. Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope.
Disney/Lucasfilm
After applause from the crowd, Lourd continued to tell the crowd the other two lessons from the late Fisher.
"Secondly, she taught me that if life isn't funny then it's just true. And that is unacceptable," she said. "And, finally, I learned by knowing her that the most evolved person is seemingly a contradiction. They are both the strongest and the most vulnerable person in the room, and that was her. That is Leia. Thank you for loving her and carrying on what she stands for. I'm beyond grateful."

Star Wars’ creators pay tribute to the fans and Carrie Fisher
Earlier today, the annual Star Wars Celebration fan gathering kicked off with a huge panel called 40 Years of Star Wars. Moderated by Star Wars film series regular Warwick Davis, the event came with plenty of surprises: George Lucas showed up to talk about the origins of the franchise and reframe his legacy with the series, while Harrison Ford dropped in to joke about sneaking in on his own plane. But the real focus of the panel was to appreciate the fans, reminisce about the films’ productions, and pay tribute to Carrie Fisher, who died in December 2016 .
The panel kicked off with a short video highlighting the moviegoers who lined up for Star Wars’ original 1977 release, cosplayers who dress up as characters, and fans who pass the films...

After widespread reports last weekend that Carrie Fisher’s family gave Lucasfilm the go-ahead for the late actress to appear in 2019’s Episode IX, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has told ABC News that Fisher will not be part of the film.

Earlier this month, Carrie Fisher's brother said the late actress would be in Star Wars: Episode IX . At the time, he said Lucasfilm would use "recent footage" of the actress to put her in the film. Now, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has responded, confirming that Fisher will not be in Episode IX.
Kennedy confirmed this is an interview with Good Morning America, which airs on Disney subsidiary ABC. "Sadly, Carrie will not be in [Episode IX]," Kennedy said. You can watch the clip below ( via The Verge ).

Fisher will reprise her role as General Organa in this December's The Last Jedi. You will be seeing a lot of her in the movie, and she's great in it, Kennedy said in the interview. The first trailer for The Last Jedi was released today at Star Wars Celebration-- watch it here .
Kennedy mentioned in the GMA interview that the script for 2019's Episode IX was not written when Fisher passed away in December 2016. Fisher's brother, Todd, was "confused" regarding Carrie's appearance in Episode IX, Kennedy said.
Kennedy and Episode IX director Colin Trevorrow met in January 2017 to discuss Leia's role in the Star Wars universe going forward . Lucasfilm also confirmed that it would not use CGI to digitally resurrect Leia .
"Carrie Fisher was, is, and always will be a part of the Lucasfilm family," the statement continued. "She was our princess, our general, and more importantly, our friend. We are still hurting from her loss. We cherish her memory and legacy as Princess Leia, and will always strive to honor everything she gave to Star Wars."
