Watch The Guardians Of The Galaxy Battle Thanos In Telltale's Launch Trailer
Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series is about to launch its first episode, and now Telltale Games has released the full trailer for the game spinoff of the popular comics and films.
The Telltale Series will follow Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot on their adventures to save the galaxy. The trailer shows The Guardians battling Thanos, but it seems our heroes have much more to worry about. After discovering an artifact of unspeakable power, Telltale says they will have to battle a ruthless enemy, "the last of her kind," who will stop at nothing to get her hands on it.
Episode One: Tangled Up in Blue will hit virtual stores tomorrow, April 18, and will be available on PlayStation 4 , Xbox One , and PC for $5. The game will also be released on iOS and Android devices.
Telltale will release Episodes 2-5 in the next few months. The game is getting a physical release on May 2 (May 5 outside North America). This will be available for $30 and will include Episode One, giving you free access to the next four episodes as they launch.
Telltale has not yet announced plans to release the game on any other platforms, but it is likely Nintendo Switch will get the game too. In March, stores in the UK, US, and Russia listed physical versions of the game for sale on Switch . Telltale Games has neither confirmed nor denied its Guardians of the Galaxy game is being released on Nintendo's newest console.
Deus Ex studio Eidos is also reportedly working on its own Guardians of the Galaxy game . As for the film series, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5, and you can check out the trailer here .

Telltale's Guardians of the Galaxy Episode 1 Review
Marvel’s interstellar, ragtag Guardians of the Galaxy prove a natural fit for the style of storytelling Telltale puts out these days - and it doesn’t take long into Episode 1: Tangled Up in Blue to recognize why. It manages to pull together some of the best elements of the comic books, the Guardians film adaptations, and Telltale’s ability to deploy well-paced and witty comedy with just enough interactivity to make you feel like a part of the action.
Like Telltale’s recent Batman game, this version of the Guardians doesn’t seem to be ripped directly from either the comics or the movies but is rather a respectful pastiche that skews heavily toward the latter. Rocket, Groot, and Drax are almost indistinguishable from their cinematic incarnations, while Peter Quill, Gamora, and Yondu (the blue guy with the big red mohawk-thing on his head) incorporate a lot more traits from their paper-and-ink equivalents. There are also lots of small, clever easter eggs to find for devoted comics fans, which I definitely appreciated.

Guardians Of The Galaxy - Episode 1: Tangled Up In Blue Review
The first episode of Telltale's Guardians of the Galaxy series sets the action-packed, sarcasm-filled stage for what's to come. It has just the right amount of exposition to keep things on track and establishes its characters without over-explaining things for those who are familiar with the comics or film. But while its two hours are paced like a movie and consistently engaging, its more game-like elements of choice and exploration remove you from the story rather than keep you grounded in it.
The episode starts strong, immediately diving into some action. The Guardians get a call from the Nova Corps, who need help fighting Thanos; soon enough, their ship is crashing and they stumble into battle. It might feel a little abrupt if you're unfamiliar with Guardians, but bickering among the team fills in most of the gaps with their personalities and dynamic. The whole episode feels true to their characters, especially how they're portrayed in the movie, and it's a good introduction to what they're all about without relying on lengthy exposition.
Before the actual fight begins, though, you first find the Nova Corps decimated by Thanos--and you have to do some exploring to figure things out. It's the first of several point-and-click adventure sections that feel out of place in the episode's movie-like structure. Since it's not immediately apparent what you're looking for, a section that would take maybe a minute in a movie can take 10, and things come grinding to a halt. It almost feels as if your participation is just the episode checking to make sure you're paying attention, when it was doing a fine job of being interesting on its own.
The fight itself picks things back up. Switching between team members to try and take Thanos down fits Telltale's quick-time events style well, and it's also a critical setup for the real conflict at the heart of the episode: rising tensions between the Guardians. Most of your important decisions revolve around siding with one team member over another. After the kind of bonding experience only fighting a genocidal maniac can achieve, not being able to make everyone happy is a little heart-wrenching, and those decisions have weight to them.
Less-important dialogue choices can reveal some backstory, but a lot of them can get confusing given that Star-Lord has such an established personality. He's snarky and sarcastic most of the time, but when you have options, you can choose to say something a little more mushy about friendship and family. That by itself works fine, but as the episode goes on, it can feel like you're choosing between acting the way you'd think Star-Lord would act and saying the things you'd actually want to say. In certain situations, it's jarring to have choices when the decision Star-Lord would make seems obvious, especially given the episode's cinematic format.
After the kind of bonding experience only fighting a genocidal maniac can achieve, not being able to make everyone happy is a little heart-wrenching.
Because of that characterization, though, jokes land more often than not, and even less-important interactions serve to build out the team. That and good voice acting balance out a few rough bits of dialogue (Rocket making a "your face" retort and following it with, "That was terrible," for example). Quiet, intimate moments between characters are what Telltale does best, and this episode strikes a good balance between Guardians-style snark and conversations with a little more meaning to them.
The episode has one majorly important decision toward the end, but I was only able to experience one of the two options. When I replayed it to see what would change, the only scene that was really different had no sound. It's the only bug I encountered, but its timing was more than inconvenient. From what I can tell, it's a decision that will more greatly affect later episodes than this one.
Even without that one scene, the episode sets up an important conflict and serious questions about the galaxy going into Episode 2. Some more game-y elements can take you out of the experience a bit, but this is also a compelling introduction to the series that captures the unique charms of the Guardians--plus, there's some kickass music.

Telltale's Guardians Of The Galaxy - Episode 1 Review Roundup
Telltale's latest series, which focuses on Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy , premieres today, April 18. The first episode is called Tangled Up in Blue, and with its launch virtually here, reviews have started to go live for this introductory episode.
This first chapter--which is coming to PlayStation 4 , Xbox One , PC , iOS, and Android--costs $5, while Episodes 2-5 will be released over the coming months. Additionally, the game is getting a physical release on May 2 (May 5 outside North America). This will be available for $30 and will include Episode One, giving you free access to the next four episodes as they launch.
You can watch a trailer for Tangled Up in Blue here , or take a look below to see what a selection of critics thought about the episode. GameSpot has a Guardians Of The Galaxy - Episode 1: Tangled Up In Blue review up now, in which critic Kallie Plagge called the episode "a compelling introduction to the series that captures the unique charms of the Guardians."

IGN -- 8.5/10"Guardians of the Galaxy is definitely starting off on the right foot, with a great script, great actors, and a universe packed with personality (and backed by catchy tunes) to explore. If it can continue to deliver the quality of dialogue and panel-perfect action over the course of the rest of the season, it may find itself seated in the upper echelons of Telltale's catalog. I just hope that now the series has introduced itself, the series gives its environments and characters just a bit more time to breathe in between speeding the plot along." -- TJ Hafer [ Full review ]
PC Gamer -- 58/100"By the end of the first episode Guardians of the Galaxy sets up its overarching plot, which ties into the history of the Kree, with a new big bad and an infinity stone-esque McGuffin. Some Marvel cosmic comic experts may be giddy to see the Kree get more love--and let's be honest, the film's villain Ronan the Accuser was pretty forgettable--so I hope the series finds strength in its story as it develops. As it stands, Tangled Up in Blue is a meandering introduction to a cast I already know, leaning on a framework that doesn't play to their strengths. In about an hour and a half, Guardians of the Galaxy tops out at 'heh.'" -- Wes Fenlon [ Full review ]
US Gamer -- 3/5"This is a Telltale style game through and through. If you're tired of what the studio has done in the past, this won't change your mind. Batman: The Telltale Series felt like a stronger evolution of the franchise, using the Detective Vision mechanic to solve puzzles and provide more personal combat choices. So far, Guardians of the Galaxy feels like a step back from that series. In fact, Guardians of the Galaxy just adds up to a weaker start than Telltale's previous comic adaptation. Telltale surprised me with some story decisions here, so I'd like to see where they intend to take the team, but as a first episode it didn't hit me in the gut and make me excited for the next." -- Mike Williams [ Full review ]

Can Guardians of the Galaxy avoid the perils of the threequel?
Even before the second instalment of the franchise is out, director James Gunn is facing up to difficulties of a third outing for Marvel’s oddball superheroes
James Gunn is hooked on a feeling. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 hasn’t even been released yet and the writer/director has made a declaration of threequel rights. In a Facebook post , Gunn has confirmed he has signed up for a third movie featuring Marvel’s oddball band of sci-fi heroes. “There is a history in Hollywood of haphazard endings to trilogies,” he declared, “and I didn’t want to become a part of that dishonourable tradition of pretending the third one doesn’t exist.”
He’s clearly throwing shade at bellyflops such as Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and Batman Forever, where received wisdom tells us acclaimed directors oversaw the first two instalments only to see the third messed up by lesser talents. By sticking with the franchise he helped jumpstart, Gunn wants to elevate Guardians of the Galaxy into the same bracket as Christopher Nolan ’s Dark Knight saga, or Peter Jackson ’s brace of Tolkien trilogies. But he might do well to remember that sitting in the same cool canvas director’s chair for three films is no guarantee of success, as these examples demonstrate.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will have at least four post-credit scenes
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 screened for press last night, and critics are already excited by Marvel’s latest outing. However, the biggest piece of news to come out of the screening is that the film has a whopping four post-credit scenes attached to it. What’s more, director James Gunn has even said that there’s a fifth to look forward to.
The fact that there’s four post-credit scenes is unheard of on its own. Films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have had at most two since 2012’s The Avengers. According to ScreenRant, two of the scenes tease future events, which is already exciting. A fifth scene didn’t play for critics, but Gunn is already setting new expectations:
@screenrant Well, five, actually.

Gunn confirmed the post-credit scene tally on Twitter, where he frequently engages with writers and answers questions from fans. In response to Screen Rant's assertion that the film had four scenes after the credits , Gunn stepped in to correct them:
