15 Product Red iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus photos: Apple's new bold color
You can get the Product Red iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus is Apple Stores around the world today, adding a new color and some much-needed freshness to the newest 'regular' iPhones – the ones immediately outshone by the flagship iPhone X .
That's right, there's no Product Red iPhone X available at this time. Apple did launch Red iPhone X cases , like a folio case, to envelope it's best phone in the new color.
Apple's new red color shade you'll want if you don't have an iPhone 8 yet and have a penchant for a unique hue. This is your standout color for early 2018.
What's different? The backs exhibit a deep red color due to Apple's new all-glass design. It stands out more than the gold, silver, Space Gray iPhone 8 colors .
We were able to get our hands on the red iPhone 8 and 8 Plus ahead of the official launch date, and see if the look lived up to Apple's perfect-product-shot hype.
The first thing we noticed was that Apple went with black front bezel on this year's Product Red iPhone. Last year's Product Red iPhone 7 had a white front.
Why the switch? The white-to-black change is much preferred, as black blends in with the LCD screen when it's off. It's also far less distracting than white when watching a movie or a quick YouTube video. If you're not going to have an all-screen phone, black bezel is better.
The Red iPhone 8 (left) and iPhone 8 Plus (right) have 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screens, respectively. Other than the color they're identical to the iPhones that came out seven months ago.
The red iPhone 8 also benefits from Apple's glass finish, which uses a seven-layer color process for precise hue and opacity, according to Apple. It may sound like overkill, but that's the sort of dramatic manufacturing you want to go into such an expensive smartphone.
This seven-layer color process is why we're seeing a brighter red color compared to the Product Red iPhone 7. Last year's iPhones were made of familiar aluminum.
Here's the other big advantage of the glass enclosure: it supports wireless charging, technology that isn't feasible on any aluminum phone we've seen.
Okay. Wait. Here's the first true perk to buying any Product Red item, like the iPhone 8. A portion of the proceeds go directly to Global Fund HIV/AIDS.
The high-profile charity provides grants for testing, counselling, treatment, and prevention programmes with a specific focus on eliminating transmission of the virus from mothers to their babies.
Apple first partnered with (RED) in 2006 and has donated more than $160 million to the Global Fund, making Apple the organisation’s largest corporate donor.
Since you may have been distracted and bought the iPhone X, here's a familiar sight you may have missed (and still adore): the old iPhone home button. Remember that?
The home button (really a non-movable pad with haptic feedback now) is part of the new Red iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, which don't have a TrueDepth camera for Face ID.
Holding onto the home button is second key reason people we've talked to have opted for the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus over the iPhone X. The lower price point is, of course, the first reason.
We don't think the home button is ever coming back to an iPhone, so this may be the last new iPhone to launch with it.
The differences between the smaller iPhone 8 and bigger 8 Plus remain the same in red. You jump from a one-hand-friendly 4.7-inch screen to a 5.5-inch screen and get a bigger battery.
The dual-lens camera is the biggest selling point for the Plus. The second rear camera, pictured here, acts as a telephoto lens. You can zoom in 2x without distortion.
You'll also find that Portrait mode and Portrait Lighting modes are exclusive to the iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X, adding blur and other effects to your portrait backgrounds.
The red iPhone 8 aluminum frame is sandwiched by glass. However, a lot of detail went into making the seven-layer glass and aluminum color match.
The new color seamlessly transitions between the two different materials, as you can see in this photo. You'll also notice, again, no headphone jack here.
We weren't able to walk away with the new iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. We had to return them when we were done playing with them. However, they'll be available soon.
You can pre-order the phones today and pick them up in stores starting on Friday April 13 in the following countries: Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, the UK, and the US.
Sadly, there’s no Product Red iPhone X for any country right now. It’s exclusive to the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and the still on sale iPod Touch.
Wait, there's more to Apple's Product Red showcase.
You can outfit your new red iPhone 8 or 8 Plus in a matching Product Red case – or give an existing iPhone 8 the new hue. This is ideal for early adopters who already bought an iPhone 8 in a different color.
The iPhone X gets Product Red treatment too, with a plastic or leather red cases.
The Apple Watch has a pair of bands in Product Red that are compatible all existing Apple Watch models and available for both the 38mm and 42mm Watch sizes.
The Sport band comes in red (left), while the leather Classic Buckle comes in ruby red (right). It goes well with the red-dotted digital crown on the Apple Watch 3 LTE .
We got to test out the new red iPhone X folio case. Apple's folio cases protect the iPhone on all sides with a wallet-like cover attachment that folds over the glass.
What's great about the folio cases is that you can wake and put to sleep the phone by merely opening the cover flap. It's a nice effect if you like this sort of case.
You can fit about three credit cards into the first slot on the inside of the folio case and a metro pass and folded up cash into the second slot. It's a decent wallet replacement when you need something besides Apple Pay.
The inside of the folio case has a soft microfiber lining for protection. It won't keep your delicate, all-screen iPhone X out of danger in all situations, but it's a good start.
The Beats Solo3 headphones with the same W1 chip found in the AirPods are also donning the Product Red color. You'll also find the Beats Pill+ in the new red hue.
Apple has all sorts of iPad-sized covers and folios in the Product Red color, from the 12.9-inch iPad Pro sleeve to the Apple Pencil case.
Yes, Apple even added a Product Red Smart Cover to the new iPad 2018 accessory lineup. That was fast, right? Sadly, you won't find the new color for the Smart Keyboard Covers. We checked.
That's everything Apple has to offer from its new red iPhone 8 color scheme and the matching accessories. Everything launches on Friday, April 13.
Keep in mind that red iPhone always seems to mark the middle of the iPhone lifecycle. It's like a literal red flag to early adopters who are easily tempted by newness.
We're less than five months away from September, the month Apple likes to launch new phones, and it could hold surprises like the new iPhone X2 , a cheaper iPhone 9 , and whatever else the company comes up with.
We'll keep you up to date on new iPhones just in case you're not tempted by all the red you see before you.
Here's when to expect the big iOS 12 announcement

There's no Product Red iPhone X, but Apple did make three red cases for it
You won't find a Product Red iPhone X alongside the new red iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus color that launched today. It's just Apple's 'regular' iPhone in the new hue.
That doesn't mean you can't envelop your otherwise-more-advanced iPhone in the deep red tone that helps raise awareness and money for the Global Fund HIV/AIDs charity.
Apple has also launched three new Product Red cases for each new iPhone this week, including a Product Red iPhone X folio case we were able to test this week.
Red iPhone X folio case impressions
Yes, it's the same folio case we got on November 3 at the phone's launch, but in red. No, you don't get the hot new color with Apple's seven-layer color process directly on the back glass.
The red iPhone X folio case exhibits a deeper, almost muted candy apple shade of red. It has a protective leather flap that folds over top of the new all-screen iPhone.
Adjusting to a smartphone case with a flap took some getting used to (about a day for us) and extra thumb work. The hardest part still? Answering a call. Where do you put the folio component of the case? Do you let it fold back all the way or let it hang? The answer: we don't make many calls, so it doesn't really matter too much.
The inside of the folio has two wallet-like slots that are large enough to hold three credit cards in the first slot and folded bills and a Metrocard in the second slot.
On the other side, there's a harder shell that wraps around the iPhone X's back glass and aluminum frame, but includes a soft microfiber lining on the inside.
We appreciate the fact that the side and volume buttons are made of machined aluminum, with a shiny ruby red finish. It's a real advantage over the silicone case's soft bumpy button outlines that are more difficult to press in.
The iPhone X folio case costs $99, £99, and AU$145.
Red iPhone X silicone and leather case impressions
The red iPhone X silicone case has a brighter shade of red to it, a touch darker than the Red Raspberry color. It has a soft, non-slip feel to the outside and microfiber lining you'll never see day-to-day for the delicate glass on the inside.
The silicone case is the cheapest of the bunch, but like we mentioned, the raised button outlines Apple's cases are harder to press in, especially over time. We've also previously found the silicone cases to hang up around the edges of jeans when sliding them in and out of our pockets.
The iPhone X leather case is the better choice of the two standard-looking cases – in Product Red or any other color, really. It has machined aluminum buttons, just like the folio case, but a darker red, but glossier look to it. It's supple, so it can take on a bit of wear over time, but it's easier to slip into your pocket.
The silicone case costs $39, £39, AU$59, while the leather case costs $49, £49, AU$75. Again, the latter is our recommended case of the two.
There should really be an red iPhone X
The iPhone X leather folio and standard leather cases are great and all, but we'd like to see that seven-layer color process in red come directly to the naked flagship iPhone.
There are enough people on the fence or just now ready to upgrade to the iPhone X on contract that a new color could give them reason to execute on the purchase.
We'd also like to see Apple launch these charity-focused colors on day one, not as mid-cycle updates. A red iPhone X would have almost certainly been a top-seller, and it still has the potential to be in 2018.
There's more than enough time for Apple to get that right with the inevitable iPhone 11 or cheaper LCD ' iPhone 9 ' (no one is quite sure of the names just yet). Apple definitely needs to give us more choice besides white and space gray in 2018.

How Apple's helping to fight HIV and AIDS with red iPhone 8's
Apple's new red-colored iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are more than just a bright new shade to match your outfit. The new iPhones are part of (Product)RED, and a portion of every sale goes directly to the non-profit, The Global Fund , to help fight HIV and AIDS.
Since it partnered up with (RED) in 2006, Apple has contributed over $160 million to the Global Fund — $30 million of which was added last year after launching the (Product)Red iPhone 7 and 7 Plu s — making the tech giant the largest contributor to the Global Fund.

You can now buy the red iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus
You can now order the new red iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus through Apple’s website. It entered its pre-sale phase today and if you order before 5PM in your respective region, it will arrive at your door the next day.
If you want to try Apple’s Product Red phone before you buy, heading to the Apple Store is something that you’re probably going to want to do. However, keep in mind that though it’s now available for purchase online, it won’t actually be in stores until Friday, April 13.
The differences between the new color and the iPhone 8’s previous options are slim. It’s really just the red color that sets it apart – you’ll still get the same glossy, wireless charging-supporting phone.
Interestingly, Apple opted for a black and red color combination instead of the perhaps more well-trodden white and red mixture.
In the UK the red iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are available from Apple , O2 , Vodafone and Virgin Mobile .

Apple releases red iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus in UAE and Saudi
As expected, Apple has released the (PRODUCT)RED version of the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus. The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus got this special edition around this time last year as well. Except this time, the front of the iPhone is black instead of white. And it looks stunning.
The special edition iPhone will be available to order online tomorrow and in stores beginning Friday, April 13 with prices starting at AED 2,991 for the 64GB model. These prices are identical to other colors that the iPhone 8 is available in.
With a glass back, the red version of the iPhone is more reflective than last year's model but other than the color change, this is the same exact iPhone 8 and ipHone 8 Plus that have been available for a few months. As with other Apple products, part of proceeds for all (PRODUCT)RED purchases go directly to Global Fund HIV/AIDS grants.
No RED for iPhone X
Rumors have been floating around that Apple may soon introduce the iPhone X with new color options. To see this opportunity now come and go with today's announcement is disappointing to holdouts, but there's a bit of consolatory news.
Apple is celebrating its new iPhones color with a Product Red leather folio for the iPhone X – the only phone that won’t be dipped in red. It will be available from April 10 and will set you back AED 419.
Sure, it's not the red iPhone X you might have been hoping for, but at least the leather folio is for a good cause.

Red iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus available from April 13
Apple has officially launched the red iPhone 8 and red iPhone 8 Plus , although there's no sign of the same shade for the iPhone X .
As part of Apple’s continued support for the Product Red initiative, which raises awareness for HIV and AIDS, two of its latest phones have received a new splash of color, retaining the line’s super glossy, all-glass look.
If you’re interested in checking the red model out in person, your local Apple Store will stock it on its shelves starting Friday, April 13.
The red iPhone 8 starts at $699 (£699, AU$1,079) for the 64GB version and $849 (£849, AU$1,329) for the 256GB version, while the red iPhone 8 Plus will set you back $799 (£799, AU$1,229) for the 64GB version and $949 (£949, AU$1,479) for 256GB – the same asking prices as the other colors.
If only Apple applied this pricing logic to its Space Gray Mac accessories .
You’ll be able to pre-order the red iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus starting on April 10.  In the US, T-Mobile has confirmed it will also be offering the red iPhone duo, while Vodafone in the UK is also stocking the new color.

Apple reveals special edition Product Red iPhone 8 and 8 Plus smartphones
Apple
Red joins gold, silver, and space gray in the color lineup for Apple's iPhone 8 and 8 Plus . Today, the company announced new Product Red special editions of two of its iPhones, both of which will be available for preorder starting tomorrow, April 10, and widely available online and in stores on Friday, April 13.

Apple releases a red iPhone 8
Apple is doing it again. The company just unveiled a new version of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. It has a bright red enclosure and a black front. A portion of Apple’s proceeds will fund HIV/AIDS grants from the Global Fund.
Other than that, it’s an iPhone 8. You’ll get the exact same features and components as in other iPhone 8 models. The iPhone 8 is also available in gold, silver and (“space”) gray. Alas, there’s still no rose gold option.
When Apple unveiled the red version of the iPhone 7, many people didn’t understand why Apple put white bezels at the front of the device. Red and black seem like a good match. That’s why some people even bought screen protectors with black borders to fix this.
This year, Apple is switching to black. It’s interesting to see that Apple waits around 6 months before launching red versions of its iPhones. It could be a way to foster sales in the middle of a product cycle.
The red iPhone 8 is going to start at $699 with 64GB just like regular iPhone 8 models. There will be 256GB versions too. Pre-orders start tomorrow and you’ll be able to buy it in Apple stores on Friday.
For iPhone X users, Apple is launching a dark red leather folio. Apple is also sharing some numbers about its partnership with (PRODUCT)RED. Since 2006, Apple has donated $160 million to the Global Fund through limited edition iPods, iPhones and accessories.

Apple announces new red iPhone 8 and 8 Plus
Apple is introducing new red models of the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus today. As with the iPhone 7 models announced around the same time last year, Apple is working with Product (RED), an organization that campaigns to fight HIV and AIDS in Africa; an unspecified portion of proceeds from sales of the phones will go to the charity. Unlike last year's white-bezeled models , the red iPhone 8 has a black front panel.
The Product (RED) iPhone 8 and 8 Plus join the existing space gray, silver, and gold models in the lineup. Last year, Apple discontinued the red variants of the 7 and 7 Plus once the 8, 8 Plus, and X were announced in September, so these new models may only be on sale for less than half a year.

Red iPhone 8 and 8 Plus might be coming this week
Remember last year's red iPhone 7 — the first iPhone to launch as a Product (RED), a special edition line of products that help fund and promote (RED)'s efforts to fight HIV and AIDS?
Apple may be giving the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus a similar treatment, according to a new Virgin Mobile memo, obtained by MacRumors .

According to the memo, Virgin Mobile will be adding red variants of iPhone 8 and 8 Plus to its inventory on Monday, April 9, and a launch announcement from Apple (no event, just a press release) might happen on the same day. The devices will be available for pre-order, which indicates a later shipping date.  Read more...

Red iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus could be announced today
Currently you can only get the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus in silver, gold and space grey, but Apple could be about to add a fourth color to the mix, as reportedly a red shade might be announced today (Monday 9).
That’s according to an internal Virgin Mobile memo, sent to its employees and obtained by MacRumors .
Specifically, the new color would be a limited edition (PRODUCT)RED shade, which we’ve seen Apple launch previously for the iPhone 7 , so the iPhone 8 version is likely to be a similarly bright red.
Some proceeds from the sales would also presumably go to the (RED) AIDS charity.
Coming very soon
The memo states that this red iPhone 8 would be added to Virgin Mobile’s inventory immediately after today’s announcement, so you may be able to pre-order it in a matter of hours, although it’s unknown how long it will be before the phone starts shipping.
There's also no word on what it will cost, though we'd expect it will be the same price as the existing shades, as nothing other than the color is likely to change.
And although this information is so far unconfirmed it’s looking like it might well be accurate, as a red iPhone 8 has been rumored before, and Apple reporter Mark Gurman has tweeted that the launch should happen this week.
Interestingly though the memo makes no mention of a red iPhone X , or a blush gold one, the latter of which has previously been rumored and even caught on camera .
So we might be waiting longer for that if it ever arrives, which is a shame, since right now you can only get Apple’s top-end iPhone in silver or space grey.

Apple will reportedly announce a red iPhone 8 on Monday
Apple will reportedly introduce a new color to its iPhone 8 and 8 Plus lineup on Monday: red. The new color is part of the company’s partnership with (RED), an advocacy group dedicated to combating HIV/AIDS in Africa.
MacRumors reports that it has viewed a memo from Virgin Mobile, which says that Apple will announce the phone option on Monday, April 9th. The memo reportedly notes that the phone will be available for preorder, but that it doesn’t specify if this will include an iPhone X edition.
Product Red was founded in 2006 by U2 frontman Bono and ONE Campaign activist Bobby Shriver, and it licenses its name to other private companies to highlight efforts to combat HIV/AIDS in eight African countries: Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Rwanda,...

232 d ago TechRadar :: Could we really see an iPhone X Plus with stylus support?
Read on TechRadar | Share | Tweet

Another day, another rumor that we'll be seeing an iPhone with Pencil support - but could that really be about to happen with the new iPhone this year?
The obvious reason for this to never occur is Steve Jobs famously stating that the iPhone would never use a stylus, in proclaiming the finger is the perfect tool for the then-new iPhone.
But that was in 2007, and since then we've had the rise of the Galaxy Note, which obviously supports the S Pen stylus, which lives in a little slot in the corner of the phone.
Now, the rumors keep swirling: today analysts at Rosenblatt suggest that the new large iPhone X model will support a stylus, according to AppleInsider .
Apple has applied for patents on an iPhone stylus, and since the launch of the iPad Pro with Pencil support, questions have arisen over whether we'll see an iPhone follow suit.
Were this to happen, it would almost certainly be a smaller, dedicated input device to let you carry it around more easily, but we doubt Apple would ever make a slot for the stylus on the phone.
Future imperfect?
Some might say that this is going against Steve Jobs' wishes for the iPhone, but the way we use our phones (and the things we can do with them) has changed dramatically in 11 years, so it's only fair that we might consider new methods of interaction.
A large-screened iPhone would be a great digital canvas for sketching and note-taking, and the Galaxy Note range has shown there's an appetite for such a capability.
With the higher amount of pixels on offer with these pin-sharp screens, a new, more accurate method of interaction would make sense.
Although, even if this does come to pass this year (or next, according to other rumors) it's unlikely to be a cheap accessory, given the iPad's Pencil comes in at nearly £100 / $100, so you'd have to work out just how much you'd want to upgrade your finger.

The release of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus were possibly the most comforting release ever. Sure, the iPhone X's changes are insanely cool — but a huge part of Team Apple was intimidated by the thought of making the leap to such a fancy spaceship phone. (An iPhone without a home button? What is this blasphemy?)
For those still stuck with an iPhone 6 or 7 but who aren't ready to convert to the X, the iPhone 8 is the perfect middle ground . The 8 features a gorgeous glass back (compared to the previous aluminum of the 7), a better camera with faster shutter speeds, and our beloved portrait mode. You're also getting updated speakers and wireless charging — all while still enjoying the beloved home button and touch ID. And everyone knows that having the bigger Plus immediately feels fancier. Besides making your iPhone look better, the right case can make your life a whole lot easier — if you know what to look for, that is.

The best case for you will depend on a lot of factors. What do you mostly use your phone for? Are you an Instagram addict, or do you spend all day texting? Do you need something with a lot of protection, or are you more concerned with making sure your phone fits in your pocket easily?
There's a lot to consider, and not every case is going to work well for everyone. But with our guide, it should be a lot easier to find the one to suit your needs.  Read more...

245 d ago TechRadar :: There's no Product Red iPhone X, but Apple did make three red cases for it
Read on TechRadar | Share | Tweet

All of the choices: iPhone 8 colors

244 d ago The VergeApple may start making iPhone 6S Plus in India to slash its prices
Read on The Verge | Share | Tweet

Apple may start iPhone 6S Plus production at a new factory in southern India to lower the model’s price, local media outlet The Economic Times reported today. It may start manufacturing in Bengaluru, formerly known as Bangalore, in two weeks.
By setting up a local factory, Apple aims to slash Indian iPhone prices, as a response to government policies that tax foreign phones. India’s government raised tariffs on smartphones from 15 to 20 percent in February, forcing Apple to seek new measures to drop its prices and stay competitive. Local manufacturing could cut prices by 5–7 percent, according to the report, if Apple manages to make all iPhone 6S Pluses sold in the Indian market domestically. If prices drop that low, iPhones could become...

If ever you start doubting the capabilities of your iPhone’s camera, take a look at these gorgeous shots by photographer Eric Van Nynatten . The New York-based photographer wanted to see if his iPhone could produce the same results as a full-frame mirrorless camera in ideal sunny settings and low-light conditions. Using an iPhone6/8 Plus and editing with VSCO and Snapseed, Van Nynatten proves that a good photographer can come up with amazing results whatever the camera. More of his work here . 257 d ago The Verge :: How an extra lens can transform your iPhone’s photos

A few years ago, the hit Sundance film Tangerine was shot entirely on an iPhone 5S to surprisingly good results. And last year, Steven Soderbergh did the same the same thing while making Unsane, with his only camera being an iPhone 7 Plus .
While a lot more than camera gear goes into making those movies look the way they do, the fact that professional filmmakers are using cameras that many of us keep in our pockets is a pretty encouraging sign when it comes to what we should be able to produce.
I wanted to test out just what you can do to improve your phone’s photo- and video-taking abilities, so I tried out a few different things: some add-on lenses, a microphone, and a stabilizer. You can see the results in the video above.
One thing I...

262 d ago TechRadar :: Apple Watch 4 may have the iPhone X’s most futuristic feature
Read on TechRadar | Share | Tweet

The Apple Watch 4 might make a sizeable leap forward with the inclusion of Face ID, the same futuristic face-unlocking biometric seen in the iPhone X .
A glimpse at a patent filing shows that Apple may very well be planning to build a camera into the next Apple Watch. While it doesn’t show what that might look like, another patent shows that it would fit squarely into its user interface, just as Face ID does on the iPhone X.
One can imagine that, similar to its implementation on the new iPhone, the next Apple Watch may hide notification details until it recognizes your face. It could also secure your data without requiring a PIN every time you take the watch off and put it back on.
The other big feature that's often tied to Apple Watch camera rumors is the ability to video chat with FaceTime from the wrist. There's no indication of that today, but the it's an obvious avenue if the camera and battery life are powerful enough in an Apple Watch 4.
Strap in for even more sensors
What’s just as interesting (if not more) as a camera on the next Apple Watch? That it might also feature straps loaded with sensors, according to these same patents.
Among the sensors that could be included in the fitness-focused strap are electromyography (EMG) and piezoelectric sensors that, according to Patently Apple , can monitor the electrical activity in your muscles and overall strain to get a more accurate sense of your workout levels.
Cheaper fitness trackers are often recommended over the more expensive Apple Watch. However, if the Apple Watch 4 is flush with sensors and a Face ID camera, it may to part with more money on a dramatically better product.
